While building scarecrows has proven to be a great way for some businesses to show their support, Chamber members, A.J. Desmond & Sons, found another way that they are able to back the community. Because their company focuses on funeral services, they recognized that a scarecrow would not necessarily be appropriate to represent their brand. Instead, they sponsor the scarecrow for the policemen. These types of partnerships aren’t uncommon either. The Historical Village has been able to truly see firsthand the connections this event has been able to foster. Most importantly, the money collected from this event all goes back into the community. Specifically, the money funds the countless events and programs that are hosted by the Troy Historical Village that are for both kids and adults. For instance, students of the Troy School District have two field trips to the village in their K-12 education, Jen Peters, the Executive Director of the Troy Historical Village, mentions that these sponsorships mean that they can keep ticket prices down. “For schools, for example, it costs as much for them to rent the bus as it does to come to see us. We know that they can’t really change the cost of the bus rental. But if we can keep the cost of the school field trip down, then it’s still doable for them,” stated Peters. The Troy Historical Village stands as a cornerstone of Troy, embodying inclusivity and community engagement. Scarecrow Row is a highlight among the various events that punctuate the year, uniting families and businesses alike. They warmly invite businesses of all kinds to connect to this annual tradition, emphasizing the welcoming of businesses to host their events and gatherings at the village. As October approaches, the anticipation for Scarecrow Row builds once more. Whether a longstanding enterprise or a newcomer, the Troy Historical Village extends a sincere invitation to join the ranks of those who've woven their story into this charming community tapestry.
